Burnco Collective Agreement

Since June, Teamsters has been negotiating with the company to renew the collective agreement. In order to make the negotiations as fast and fluid as possible, the Union has even requested the help of an ALRB mediator. Bernie Haggarty, union representative for Teamsters Local Union 362, said the union was ready to return to the negotiating table “as long as the company is ready to negotiate in good faith.” “The company made an offer last week, but we didn`t even have the opportunity to present it to our members,” said Bernie Haggerty, union representative for Teamsters Local Union 362. “They blocked our members before we could even vote on their offer!” Calgary, August 11, 2015 — The Teamsters filed a complaint with the Alberta Labor Relations Board in response to the company`s decision to exclude their employees. “The longest lockout we`ve had in the past was at Burnco,” the union representative recalled. “Our members deserve to be treated with respect and to have better working conditions.” On Monday, the 96 Burnco employees met with pickets outside the company`s Calgary offices after receiving a lockout notice last week. The company produces aggregates, paving bay and transport concrete. They are represented by Teamsters Local Union 362 in Calgary. The main themes are seniority, respect and non-monetary clauses.
